#10 - RAYMOND CHANDLER [1888-1959]

RAYMOND CHANDLER
“Alcohol is like love. The first kiss is magic, the second is intimate, the third is routine. After that you take the girl’s clothes off.”

#9 - FREDERICK EXLEY [1929-92]

FREDERICK EXLEY
“After a month’s sobriety my faculties became unbearably acute and I found myself unhealthily clairvoyant, having insights into places I’d as soon not journey to. Unlike some men, I had never drunk for boldness or charm or wit; I had used alcohol for precisely what it was, a depressant to check the mental exhilaration produced by extended sobriety.”

#8 - JACK KEROUAC [1922-69]

JACK KEROUAC
“As I grew older I became a drunk. Why? Because I like ecstasy of the mind.”

#7 - HARRY CREWS [1935- ]

HARRY CREWS
“Alcohol whipped me. Alcohol and I had many, many marvelous times together. We laughed, we talked, we danced at the party together; then one day I woke up and the band had gone home and I was lying in the broken glass with a shirt full of puke and I said, ‘Hey, man, the ball game’s up’.” [Editor’s Note: According to published reports, Crews has been sober since 1987. Way to go, Harry!]
#6 - JACK LONDON [1876-1916]

JACK LONDON
“I was carrying a beautiful alcoholic conflagration around with me. The thing fed on its own heat and flamed the fiercer. There was no time, in all my waking time, that I didn’t want a drink. I began to anticipate the completion of my daily thousand words by taking a drink when only five hundred words were written. It was not long until I prefaced the beginning of the thousand words with a drink.”

First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you.”

#4 - WILLIAM FAULKNER [1897-1962]

WILLIAM FAULKNER
“There is no such thing as bad whiskey. Some whiskeys just happen to be better than others. But a man shouldn’t fool with booze until he’s fifty; then he’s a damn fool if he doesn’t.”

#3 - EDGAR ALLAN POE [1809-49]

EDGAR ALLAN POE Drunk
“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.”

#2 - ERNEST HEMINGWAY [1899-1961]

ERNEST HEMINGWAY

“An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools.” - Hemingway

#1 - CHARLES BUKOWSKI [1920-94] & HUNTER S. THOMPSON [1937-2005]

CHARLES BUKOWSKI
“Drinking is an emotional thing. It joggles you out of the standardism of everyday life, out of everything being the same. It yanks you out of your body and your mind and throws you against the wall. I have the feeling that drinking is a form of suicide where you’re allowed to return to life and begin all over the next day. It’s like killing yourself, and then you’re reborn. I guess I’ve lived about ten or fifteen thousand lives now.”

HUNTER S. THOMPSON
“I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.” - Thompson

Drinks Which Reflect Personality, What Drink Are You?

Before you order a drink in public, you should read this! Seven New York City bartenders were asked if they could ‘nail’ a woman’s personality based on what she drinks. Though interviewed separately, they concurred on almost all counts. The results:

PART A: WOMEN-DRINKS, WHO THEY ARE, & YOU!

Drink: Beer
Personality: Causal, low-maintenance; down to earth.
Your Approach: Challenge her to a game of pool.

Drink: Blender Drinks
Personality: Flaky, whiny, annoying; a pain in the ass.
Your Approach: Avoid her, unless you want to be her cabana boy.

Drink: Mixed Drinks
Personality: Older, more refined, high maintenance, has very picky taste; knows EXACTLY what she wants.
Your Approach: You won’t have to approach her. If she’s interested, she’ll send YOU a drink…

Drink: Wine (does not include White Zinfandel)
Personality: Conservative and classy; sophisticated yet giggles.
Your Approach: Tell her you love to travel and spend quiet evenings with my friends.

Drink: White Zinfandel
Personality: Easy; thinks she is classy and sophisticated, actually, she has NO clue.
Your Approach: Make her feel smarter than she is…this should be an easy target.

Drink: Shots
Personality: Likes to hang with pals and looking to get totally drunk… and naked.
Your Approach: Easiest hit in the joint. You have been blessed. Nothing to do but wait, however, be careful not to make her mad!

Drink: Tequila
No explanations required - everyone just KNOWS what happens there.

PART B: MAN-DRINKS & WHO THE MEN ARE!

THEN, there is the MALE addendum — The deal with guys is, as always, very simple and clear cut:

Domestic Beer: He’s poor and wants to get laid.

Imported Beer: He likes good beer and wants to get laid.

Wine: He is hoping that the wine will give him a sophisticated image to help him get laid.

Whiskey: He doesn’t give a damn about anything but getting laid.

Tequila: He is thinking he has a chance with the toothless waitress.

White Zinfandel: He’s gay

MTV True Life: I’M AN ALCOHOLIC

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)

I saw this episode for the first time a couple nights ago. One of the girls in this show (Casey, Las Vegas) was one fat disgusting slob! Drinking by herself all the time, drinking beer for breakfast, while brushing her teeth, after breakfast, etc. (And it was Natural Ice!) You can imagine how nasty this cow is. You can almost see her getting fatter by the minute on this show. The other girl in this episode (Christine, California) just drank with friends and partied all the time, a bit extensive, but she seems like she has a good time while it lasted. If you get a chance to watch this you should. Its pretty entertaining, and funny watching Casey get drunk and try to walk around. Fat Lush!

MTV’s Synopsis of this episode:
“What if every time you took a sip of alcohol you couldn’t stop drinking until it was hard to walk, talk, or even think? That’s the grim reality for the estimated five and a half million Americans under 25 who are alcoholics. This episode of True Life introduces you to two young women struggling to overcome this relentless addiction that’s destroying their lives.

Casey first tasted liquor when she was 14 but now drinks every day to excess. Her parents used to send her money for rent but stopped when they found out she was spending it all on booze. Casey struggles to fight the lure of the bottle and get a job.

Christina loves to party but now she’s frightened that she wakes up with shaking hands and a desire to have a beer for breakfast. Christina’s trying to quit drinking for good and get her life on track by attending Alcoholics Anonymous.(http://think.mtv.com/044FDFFFF0002D79C001A0098C412/)
