Perfect Brandy Manhattan
3 ounces brandy, nothing fancy
1/2 ounce sweet vermouth, preferably Italian, such as Martini & Rossi
1/2 ounce dry vermouth, preferably French, such as Noilly Prat
French cherries soaked in brandy, such as the Griottines brand from Fougerolles
Cherry juice
Chill a martini glass. Shake the first three ingredients with crushed ice and strain into a glass. Put in a cherry and a little cherry juice. Don’t mix after putting in the cherry juice, then garnish with a few more cherries.
Stupid Cupid
1 1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. sloe gin
1 oz. lemon juice
Pour ingredients into a mixing glass nearly filled with ice. Stir. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.
Pink Valentine Punch
1 bottle champagne, chilled
1 bottle rose wine
10 oz. frozen strawberries, thawed
1/4 cup fine sugar
Place sugar and strawberries (with their juice) in punch bowl. Stir to dissolve sugar. Add wine and champagne. Approx. 15 servings.
Butterfly Kisses
2 ounces vanilla-infused vodka
1 1/2 ounces Frangelico
1 cinnamon stick
Chill a martini glass. Shake liquids in crushed ice; strain into glass. Garnish with cinnamon stick.
Confirmed Bachelor
1 1/2 oz. gin
1 tsp. Rose’s lime juice
1 tsp. Grenadine
One egg white
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Seething Jealousy
1 oz. sweet vermouth
1 oz. scotch
1/2 oz. cherry brandy
1/2 oz. orange juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Life’s Hot Toddy
1 teaspoon honey
Juice from half a lemon, including a little pulp, even seeds
2 ounces Maker’s Mark bourbon
Boiling water
Whole cloves or cinnamon stick
Mix first three ingredients in a heavy mug, top off with boiling water, garnish, and serve.
Pink Lady
2 oz. gin
1 tsp. Cherry brandy
1 tsp. Grenadine
1 tsp. Light cream
One egg white
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Cherry Kiss
1 oz. Irish cream liqueur
1 oz. Chambord
Use a poussee-café or cordial glass. Pour Irish cream liqueur first. Then add Chambord by pouring it over the back of a spoon so that it floats on top.
Wedding Belle
1 1/2 oz. Gin
1 oz. Dubonnet rouge
1/2 oz. Kirschwasser
1/2 oz. orange juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Honeymoon
1 oz. apple brandy
1 oz. Benedictine
1 tsp. Triple Sec
1 oz. lemon juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Monkey Shine Shooter
1/2 oz. Bourbon liqueur
1/2 oz. Crème de banane
1/2 oz. Irish cream liqueur
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a shot glass.
Green Machine Punch
2 liters vodka
1 (12 oz.) can frozen limeade concentrate
1/2 pint lemon sherbet
1/2 pint lime sherbet
Defrost limeade and dissolve in vodka. Add sherbet. About 35 servings.
Everybody’s Irish or Saint Pat
2 oz. Irish whiskey
1 oz. green crème de menthe
1 oz. green Chartreuse
Pour ingredients into a mixing glass nearly filled with ice. Stir. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Emerald Isle
2 oz. Gin
1 1/2 tsp. Green crème de menthe
3 dashes bitters
Pour ingredients into a mixing glass nearly filled with ice. Stir. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Shamrock
1 1/2 oz. Irish whiskey
1/2 oz. dry vermouth
1/2 oz. green crème de menthe
1 tsp. Green Chartreuse.
Pour ingredients into a mixing glass nearly filled with ice. Stir. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Irish Shillelagh
1 1/2 oz. Irish whiskey
1/2 oz. light rum
1/2 oz. sloe gin
1 tsp. Powdered sugar
1 oz. lemon juice
1/4 cup peaches
1/4 cup raspberries
Combine ingredients in a blender with ice. Blend thoroughly. Pour into an old-fashioned glass. Garnish with raspberries.
Irish Coffee
2 oz. Irish whiskey
Hot coffee
Granulated sugar to taste
Whipped cream or heavy cream
Dissolve sugar in whiskey in an Irish coffee glass. Add coffee to within 1/2 inch of the brim. Top with whipped cram. An alternative is heavy cream poured carefully over the back of a spoon so that it floats on top of the coffee.
Irish Dream
1/2 oz. Irish cream liqueur
1/2 oz. hazelnut liqueur
1/2 oz. brown crème de cacao
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Combine ingredients in a blender with ice. Blend thoroughly. Pour into a collins or parfait glass. Serve with a straw.
Irish Flag Shooter
1 oz. green crème de menthe
1 oz. Irish cream liqueur
1 oz. Grand Marnier
Pour ingredients, in order given, into a poussee-café or cordial glass, so that they form separate layers.
Patriotic Punch
1 liter vodka
2 quarts grapefruit juice
2 quarts cranberry juice
Chill ingredients. Combine in a punch bowl with ice or an ice ring. Approx. 25 servings.
American Beauty
1 1/2 oz. brandy
1 oz. dry vermouth
1/2 tsp. White crème de menthe
1/2 tsp. Grenadine
1 oz. orange juice
1 oz. port
Combine ingredients except port in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass. Float the port on top.
Fourth of July
1 oz. grenadine
1 oz. vodka
1 oz. blue Curacao
Pour ingredients, in order given, into a cordial or shot glass, so that they form separate layers.
Artillery
2 oz. gin
1/2 oz. sweet vermouth
Dash of bitters
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Colonial
1 1/2 oz. gin
1 tbs. Maraschino
1/2 oz. grapefruit juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Stars and Stripes
3/4 oz. cherry Herring
3/4 oz. cream
3/4 oz. blue Curacao
Pour ingredients, in order given, into a cordial glass, so that they form separate layers.
Redcoat
1 1/2 oz. light rum
1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. apricot brandy
1/2 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. grenadine
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Halloween Cider Punch
2 quarts hard cider
6 oz. Drambuie
6 oz. dry sherry
1/4 cup sugar
2 oz. lemon juice
2 cups sparking water
four apples, sliced
Add all ingredients to a punch bowl with a block of ice. Garnish with apple slices. Makes approx 15 servings.
Frisky Witch
1 1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 oz Sambuca
Pour into an old-fashioned glass over ice.
Witch’s Tit
2 oz. coffee liqueur
1/2 oz. heavy cream
one half maraschino cherry
Pour coffee into a cordial or pousse-café glas first. Add cream by pouring over the back of a spoon so that it floats on top. Place cherry at the center.
Devil’s Tail
1 1/2 oz. light rum
1 oz. vodka
2 tsp. Apricot brandy
2 tsp. Grenadine
1/2 oz. lime juice
Combine ingredients in a blender with ice. Blend thoroughly. Pour into a champagne flute.
Green Devil
1 1/2 oz. gin
1 oz. crème de menthe
1/2 oz. lime juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass over ice.
Green Demon Shooter
1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. rum
1/2 oz. Midori
1/2 oz. limeade
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a shot glass.
Devil’s Cocktail
2 oz. ruby port
1 oz. dry vermouth
splash of lemon juice
Pour ingredients into a mixing glass nearly filled with ice. Stir. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Black Magic Shooter
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. coffee liqueur
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a shot glass.
Thanksgiving Special
1 oz. gin
3/4 oz. apricot-flavored brandy
3/4 0z. dry vermouth
splash lemon juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Happy Apple
2 oz. rum
3 oz. apple cider
1/2 oz. lime juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into an old-fashioned glas. Garnish with a lime twist.
Americana
1/4 oz. Tennessee whiskey
1 tsp. Fine sugar
dash bitters
champagne, chilled
Combine the whiskey, sugar, and bitters in a collins or highball glass until the sugar is dissolved. Fill with champagne.
Turkey Shooter
3/4 oz. Wild Turkey bourbon
1/4 oz. white crème de menthe
Pour ingredients into a mixing glass nearly filled with ice. Stir. Strain into a cordial glass or a brandy snifter.
Glogg
2 bottles dry red wine
1 tbs. Cognac
1/2 cup fine sugar
five cloves
2 sticks cinnamon
Raisins
Slivered almonds
Combine all ingredients except raisins and almonds in a saucepan and heat. Do not boil. Serve with almonds and raisins on the side to be added to the mug or punch cup when the drink is poured. 10 servings.
Tom & Jerry
2 oz. light rum
1 oz. brandy
2 tsp. Sugar
one egg white
one egg yolk
6 oz. hot milk
Nutmeg
Beat the egg white and yolk separately. Mix them together in a mug. Add the sugar and mix vigorously. Pour in the rum and brandy. Fill with milk. Stir gently and sprinkle with nutmeg.
Egg Nog
Six eggs
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 cup rum
1 1/2 tsp. Vanilla
1 quart light cream or mild
Nutmeg
Beat eggs until light and foamy. Add sugar, salt, and vanilla. Add rum and cream. Stir well. Chill. Sprinkle with nutmeg before servings. Makes 12 half cup servings.
Joy to the World
1 1/2 oz. light rum
1/2 oz. bourbon
1/2 oz. dark crème de cacao
Pour ingredients into a mixing glass nearly filled with ice. Stir. Strain into a cocktail glass.
Christmas Poussee-Café
1 part grenadine
1 part green crème de menthe
Pour grenadine into a cordial glass first. Then carefully pour crème de menthe over the back of a spoon so that the layers remain.
Wassail
1/4 tsp. Nutmeg
1/4 tsp. Cardamom
1/4 tsp. Powdered ginger
two cloves
two cinnamon sticks
1 cup water
2 bottles medium dry sherry
1/2 cup brandy
1 cup sugar
Three egg yolks
Six egg whites
Four baked apples.
Simmer the spices in a large saucepan for ten minutes. Add liquors and sugar; heat, but do not boil. Remove from heat. Lightly beat egg yolks and white separately (they should be no more than frothy). Pour a cup of the warm sherry into a punch bowl and stir in the egg yolks. Add the rest of the liquor. Beat in the egg whites with a whisk until foamy. Float apples. Makes approximately 12 servings.
Champagne Punch
1 bottle dry white wine
16 oz. grapefruit juice
one pineapple, diced and crushed in a blender,
1 bottle champagne, chilled
Combine all ingredients except the champagne in a punch bowl. Add ice and chilled champagne just before serving. Makes about 15 servings.
Champagne Cooler
1 oz. brandy
1/2 oz. Triple Sec
1 tsp. Fine sugar
Champagne, chilled
Combine brandy, Triple Sec, and sugar in a large wine glass. Add champagne and garnish with a sprig of mint.
Bubby Mint
1/2 oz. white crème de menthe
Champagne, chilled
Pour crème de menthe into champagne glass and add champagne to fill.
Happy Youth
1 oz. cherry brandy
2 oz. orange juice
1 tsp. fine sugar
Champagne, chilled.
Dissolve sugar in brandy and orange juice in a champagne glass. Fill with champagne.
Single Egg Nog
One egg
1 1/2 oz. rum (or liquor of choice)
6 oz. milk
Nutmeg
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a highball glass without ice. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
Night Cap
2 oz. light rum
1 tsp. fine sugar
Warm milk
Nutmeg
Pour ingredients into a mug. Stir. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
Coffee Nut
1 oz. Amaretto
1 oz. Frangelico
Hot black coffee
2 oz. cream or whipped cream
Pour ingredients except cream into a mug. Top with whipped cream or cram poured over the back of a spoon to float on top.
Kamikaze Shooter
1/2 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. Triple Sec
1/2 oz. Lime juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a shot glass.
Snakebite Shooter
1 1/2 oz. Yukon Jack
1 oz. lime juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker half filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a shot glass.
